Bodegas Artadi dates back to 1981 when its current owner, Juan Carlos López de Lacalle, together with his family and thirteen local growers founded Artadi in the heart of Alava. Juan Carlos represents the 4th generation of winemakers, now joined by his son and 5th generation, Carlos. Today, Artadi own 65 hectares of vineyard in their original site of Álava, in Laguardia, planted in soils with wide geological diversity. These distinctive vineyard sites give singularity to their wines, allowing the character of the fruit and the finesse of the tannins to shine. It is this singularity which prompted Bodegas Artadi to leave the Consejo Regulador of the D.O.Ca Rioja in 2015. Their objective is to focus on origin, hence their focus on single vineyard wines, rather than the Rioja designations, which were proving restrictive. Rioja's classification system permits only one geographical indication: Rioja itself whereas, at ARTADI, they believe it is essential to offer the opportunity to discover the diversity of their land, which gives their wines a unique significance, a distinguishing character and authenticity.

A wine with a well-defined and structured backbone that contains angular shapes which denote power. It presents itself with cautious speech in a submissive way when first entering the mouth, and the strength of its blended tannins and its powerful balance are appreciable in the mid-palate. Clay-limestone soils lightly compacted. They distinguish vineyards in slope with soils which are shallow and set on soft sandstone rock and the vineyards on terrace set on deeper and fresher soils.

Tasting note by Luis Gutiérrez of the Wine Advocate "This is elegant and nuanced, subtle and insinuating, cool and harmonious. I like very much the character of this vineyard that in 2018 seems accentuated by the style of the year. It has very fine tannins and great harmony in the palate with a fine, velvety texture."

We are currently using Fedex for most of our deliveries and whilst there are options for an economy and next day delivery, in most cases all orders are delivered the following day.

Orders over £90 are delivered free of charge to mainland UK.Unfortunately Off Shore charges will apply and we cannot avoid this.

We are also happy to deliver local orders (within 20 miles of Dumfries) free of charge to. We do these deliveries in our own van and this option can be found in the Shipping drop down box in the Shopping Cart. Please note though, that local deliveries may take a day or two longer as it depends which route we are taking or have just been on. If we have just delivered to Annan for example when your order comes through, it may be another couple days before we go that way. IF YOU WANT YOUR ORDER IN THE NEXT TWO DAYS, then please choose ParcelForce 48 or 24

For off shore and some Highlands destinations we will most likely use Parcelforce or Royal Mail and it may take a day or two longer to reach you.
