Bodegas Artadi dates back to 1981 when its current owner, Juan Carlos López de Lacalle, together with his family and thirteen local growers founded Artadi in the heart of Alava. Juan Carlos represents the 4th generation of winemakers, now joined by his son and 5th generation, Carlos. Today, Artadi own 65 hectares of vineyard in their original site of Álava, in Laguardia, planted in soils with wide geological diversity. These distinctive vineyard sites give singularity to their wines, allowing the character of the fruit and the finesse of the tannins to shine. It is this singularity which prompted Bodegas Artadi to leave the Consejo Regulador of the D.O.Ca Rioja in 2015. Their objective is to focus on origin, hence their focus on single vineyard wines, rather than the Rioja designations, which were proving restrictive. Rioja's classification system permits only one geographical indication: Rioja itself whereas, at ARTADI, they believe it is essential to offer the opportunity to discover the diversity of their land, which gives their wines a unique significance, a distinguishing character and authenticity.

Wines with great expressivity in the nose and a mouth full of freshness. Concentration of turgid fruits. Structured sensations marked by naturalness and a limpid definition.

The vineyard is settled on a former medieval village. They still can encounter certain elements of patrimonial value of the former town of San Lorenzo de Quintanilla, which has remained in the subsoil of this place for half a millennium.

Wines of distinct character on the nose and palate expressing lots of freshness. A concentration of fleshy fruit. Great natural structure and precise definition. Without frills, the wines are four-square and austere, and this is their attraction. The finish offers a lingering tactile mouth-feel with freshness coming through together with definition and an enveloping sensation.

GROWING SEASON 2018: The 2018 vintage was marked for frequent precipitations during winter and autumn. At the end of September and beginning of October just before the harvest, they were gifted with kind weather conditions favouring the collection of the grapes.
